Shazetta Thompson-Hill

      Reverend Dr. Shazetta Thompson-Hill (Pastor Zetty) is a native of Flint, Michigan. The youngest of five children born to the Reverends Hank and Carmen Thompson, she is married to the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Hill. Together, they are the parents of two sons, Isaac James-Henry Hill (18) and Alexander Wesley-Louis (6). Dr. Thompson-Hill acknowledged the call of God on her life at the age of sixteen. She was licensed to preach at Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church (Jackson, TN) in 2006, under the leadership of Apostle Larry W. Robinson and Prophetess Theresa Robinson.

      In that same year, after graduating with a B.A. in Mass Communications from Lane College (Jackson, TN), she enrolled at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary (Evanston, IL) and graduated with the Master of Divinity Degree in 2009. While in Seminary, she became of a member of New Hope CME Church (Evanston, IL) under the leadership of Rev. Lavisha Williams and remained there until 2010. In 2010, Rev. Thompson-Hill transferred her membership to Carter Memorial CME Church (Gary, Indiana) under the leadership of Rev. Willie B. Weaver, Jr. She was ordained a Traveling Deacon by Bishop Paul A.G. Stewart at the 2011 setting of the Michigan-Indiana Annual Conference of the Third Episcopal District of the CME Church.

      Upon completing additional studies, Rev. Thompson-Hill made the decision to join her husband as a member of the East Tennessee Annual Conference of the First Episcopal District and requested to transfer. She was received into that Annual Conference and served there under the leadership of Bishop Lawrence Reddick, III. In 2014, she was ordained Traveling Elder by Bishop Henry M. Williamson (who was appointed to lead the First Episcopal District at the 2014 General Conference). In 2015, Rev. Thompson-Hill and her husband transferred to the East Texas Annual Conference of the Eighth Episcopal District to serve again under the leadership of Senior Bishop Lawrence Reddick III. In 2016, she was appointed to serve as Associate Pastor at Christian Chapel Temple of Faith, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Vanessee J. Burns.

      In August 2017, Rev. Thompson-Hill joined the full-time Faculty of Texas College (Tyler, TX) as Instructor of Religion.  She and her husband are also owners of Hill House Media Company. In addition to the B.A. and MDiv, Rev. Thompson-Hill also holds the Master of Social Work (MSW) and the Master of Education (M.Ed) degrees from Loyola University Chicago. In May 2019, she completed the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) with high honors at Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology (Dallas, TX).

      Dr. Thompson-Hill is a documentary filmmaker and author known for her passion for social justice and activism. Having been active in Ferguson, Baltimore, Prairie View and most recently, Flint, Michigan, she brings a fresh perspective to what it means to do ministry as the Body of Christ saying often that the Church is called to “pray AND be present.” Fearless and uncompromising, Dr. Thompson-Hill’s ministry and preaching style allows her to reach people and congregations of all ages and walks of life. Young in age, but well respected among her peers and elders, Rev. Shazetta Thompson-Hill is indeed a leader among the preachers and activists of her generation.
